Hi there!

I’m Leah Rose Damour, (she/her), a lifelong learner with a passion for helping others through the power of authentic connection.

As a NY state licensed psychotherapist, I specialize in trauma-informed care and therapeutic skills building. I have experience working with teens and adults in group programs, in individual therapy, and family work with those who are living with anxiety, depression, trauma and abuse history, gender/sexual identity, imposter syndrome and relationship struggles.

Outside of work, I engage in my own self-care by participating in my own therapy, focusing on the things I can control, and working on being more flexible to change. I enjoy knitting, gardening, and spending time with my cat, husband, and friends.

My Services

I believe in each person’s ability to reach their goals and that my role is to support and accept you every step of the way. We’ll work to help you see situations in new lights, take healthy risks, and gain confidence in your abilities to care for yourself.

Individual Adult Psychotherapy

(In-person or online)
Sessions are 45 minutes long and focus on the specific areas you’d like to target.  Together, we create goals for your therapy that often change as the therapy evolves. Talk therapy, art therapy and DBT therapy are different options to explore your areas of concern.

Individual Teen Psychotherapy

(In-person or online)
Sessions are 45 minutes long and focus on a combination of the teen’s areas of concern as well as parent’s. I create a safe, curious environment for teens to explore and find new ways of connecting to their feelings and develop insight. Learning DBT skills and exploring ways to apply them to daily life are especially helpful for adolescents. Periodic parent/family sessions are expected to update treatment needs and review results at home.

Group Therapy

(In-person or online)
I have extensive group therapy experience. Workshops vary in duration depending on subject matter and number of participants. I have expertise in DBT skills groups as well as support groups with adults and adolescents, often utilizing art therapy. Please contact me to discuss further if interested.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is an approach that teaches specific skills that can be applied to almost any situation. I will teach you this new way of thinking and how to practice outside of our sessions. Through Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Emotional Regulation, and Distress tolerance skills, you can learn to reduce your suffering.  Learn more about DBT at Harvard.edu

Art Therapy

Art Therapy is one of the types of therapy I offer. It combines psychotherapy with traditional and non-traditional art materials to provide flexibility to reflect and explore your inner workings. Art therapy does not require artistic skill or experience, just some curiosity and willingness to explore. I’ll walk you every step of the way. Learn more at The American Art Therapy Association.

FAQs

  • Let me just start by saying, you are not alone. As this is very common, I am ready to help you adjust to the idea of seeking therapy and talking to a stranger about very personal matters.

A big part of my work is helping folks unlearn patterns of thinking that were taught to us in our youth. There are so many gray areas in life, if we can see past the good and bad, right and wrong, we open ourselves up to so much possibility.

  • Therapy is one of the pillars of health that is as important as nutrition, exercise, or sleep. Taking care of your mental wellness is crucial to achieving overall health and enjoyment of life. Once we can better understand ourselves and reactions to our environment, we can approach things in new ways.

You deserve self-care! And your loved ones will thank you for it.

  • You can see me as an out-of-network provider or pay out of pocket.  I can provide you with the necessary receipts (sometimes called Superbills) and documentation to submit to your insurance company in order for you to receive reimbursement for your treatment. Your insurance company is responsible for determining if and how much they will reimburse you per session.

For out of pocket clients, I have a sliding scale which is a limited-option flexible fee structure where the cost of therapy sessions is adjusted based on the client's income, and aims to make mental health care more affordable. This would be discussed at the first meeting. First sessions cost $175 and I can provide a receipt for these as well.

  • Our first session is our opportunity to discuss what brought you to therapy and the possible ways that I can help. You don’t need to prepare anything, I’m here to lead the way. We will discuss schedule, expectations, and I will answer any questions you may have about going forward.
